Free GTO Wizard Alternatives: Solver, Library or Trainer
The best free GTO Wizard alternatives depend on which part of GTO Wizard you use. For solving spots, TexasSolver and WASM Postflop are free, open-source solvers; Lucid Poker gives unlimited preflop solves and 5 postflop solves a day. For drills, GTO Gecko has a free preflop library, and Poker Puzzle Trainer, which we make, has no daily cap but no solver. Every tool was checked on October 10, 2026.
Disclosure: Poker Puzzle Trainer is our own app. We judge it on the same criteria as the others and say where it falls short: it is not a solver, so it cannot solve a spot you build yourself, and its answers follow rules we wrote rather than solver output.
A solver spot, explained
You open on the button with K♠7♠, the big blind calls, the flop comes A♦ 8♣ 3♥ and the big blind checks: check back, bet 33% of the pot, or bet 80%? This is the kind of spot people load into a solver. Here the answer comes with an explanation, based on rules written by the app's author rather than computed by a solver.
The five alternatives and their catch
| Tool | What is free | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Lucid Poker | unlimited preflop solves, 5 postflop solves a day | beyond that, $49 a month ($29 the first month) |
| GTO Gecko | the full preflop library, free daily hands on its 3 trainers | number of free hands not published |
| TexasSolver | the whole solver, on Windows, macOS and Linux | you build every tree; no library, no trainer |
| WASM Postflop | a postflop solver that runs in your browser | not developed since October 2023 |
| Poker Puzzle Trainer | every spot, no daily cap, no account | no solver: answers written by its author |
For reference, GTO Wizard's own free plan gives 100 preflop and 1 postflop solution a day, and 10 trainer hands a day; the cheapest subscription is $49 a month, or $39 a month billed yearly.
Tool by tool
- Lucid Poker: the free tier closest to GTO Wizard, with a real online solver; postflop solves are capped per day.
- GTO Gecko: a free preflop library and daily practice hands on its preflop, postflop and full-hand trainers.
- TexasSolver: an open-source solver (AGPL licence), free for personal use, with a graphical interface. You have to know which ranges and bet sizes to give it: it computes, it does not teach.
- WASM Postflop: the same kind of solver, straight in the browser with nothing to install; its desktop version, Desktop Postflop, ships for Windows and Linux. The code is still available, but its author suspended the project in October 2023.
- Poker Puzzle Trainer (ours): decisions organized in chapters, each one explained, playable without limit in English, French and Spanish. No solver, and no pretence of one.
How we picked
We kept only tools whose official page or source code confirms what is free. Tools that appear only in directories, with no readable pricing page, were left out. Free tiers change often: check the source before you choose.
