Best play: Call
Why
As BB facing the BTN open with K‑7 suited at 65bb, flatting (call) is a sound default. The HU BB defends extremely wide and rarely folds, and K7s is comfortably above the fold threshold but a bit thin to 3‑bet for pure value at this depth: a K-high suited hand with a weak kicker prefers to keep the BTNs wide, weak range in rather than blasting it out. Calling realizes equity in a single-raised pot where you can flop top pair, flush draws and backdoors, and outflop the bottom of the openers range. The K blocks some KK/KQ/AK and the suit gives flush potential, but the dominated kicker means a 3‑bet bloats the pot with a hand that plays awkwardly OOP. A mixed 3‑bet exists, but call is the preferred line here.
Key idea
Not every defendable BB hand wants to 3‑bet. K7s is too strong to fold but kicker-dominated, so flat to keep the BTNs wide range in and realize equity in a single-raised pot rather than bloating the pot OOP.
Common mistake
3-betting K7s for value as if it were KQs. The weak kicker dominates poorly and plays awkwardly OOP in a 3‑bet pot; flatting to defend wide is the higher-EV default.
